I am raising money in memory of my grandma, Lavane Hardy. She suffered from Parkinson's disease for many years, ultimately frozen in her body, unable to move much at all. I remember towards the end of her life, she could barely speak, but she could always laugh. She was tough. Not in the usual ways, but I always felt that she was glad that she was suffering rather than someone else. She always seemed to care more about others than herself. Generous and loving.

I'm training for an Ironman triathlon and have been thinking of Grandma a lot. Sometimes the training feels hard, but it humbles me to think that I'm moving freely for hours on end until it hurts, because I can and because I enjoy it. I think of her and how little she could move and how much it hurt to not be able to move, and how much she would love to be able to move for hours on end.

Anyway, Parkinson's Disease can be terrible. I'll never forget how bravely Grandma faced it, how she suffered, and how she never wanted anyone else to suffer. With that in mind, please consider donating to help "Ease the Burden and Find the Cure" for Parkinson's disease.
