I enjoyed a very successful 33 year career in the insurance industry building a large insurance organization before retiring in 2011, at age 53, the very top of my career, due to the effects of Parkinson's Disease.
The irony: While retiring early was positively NOT my first choice, I have since discovered that at the same time my day job was ending, I was unwittingly discovering my new life's calling, Supporting PD patients and Funding A Cure.
Today I take the same passion, drive and focus that enabled me to enjoy a fabulous FIRST career to my NEW one. Though I must admit this one has a higher degree of motivation with an added dose of urgency.
This multiple year odyssey is entitled OPTIMISM CAN TAKE YOU ANYWHERE and has 3 tenets:
1. PROMOTING awareness of Parkinson's Disease and it's effect on 1.5 million Americans;
2. DEMONSTRATING in words and actions the importance of a positive outlook and positive health benefits in fighting any chronic illness. In fact, I don't say I have PD, instead I see it as PD has me. And it should be very afraid.
3. FUNDING a cure! My wife and I have raised over $150,000 in support of Parkinson's Disease patients and research to find a cure - we won't quit until we find that cure.
To follow our efforts go to WWW.TEAMBOBPRESTON.BLOGSPOT.COM or on FaceBook at 'Bob Preston Cure PD'
Please help if you can: RIAPDA.ORG or APDAPARKINSON.ORG
And yes what you hear is true:
1. I am absolutely positive I will be cured of PD. NO doubt of any kind; And this one is especially for the newly diagnosed!!!
2. I am very content & happy. Even if given the opportunity, despite having PD, I would not trade places with anyone in the world. Nobody! Never Happen!
BE WELL,
BOB PRESTON

Your drive and persistence in pushing yourself to reach your goal along with your tremendously optimistic attitude has certainly given many of us an example to continue our path no matter what obstacles we may be faced with. I am proud to know you. |
