The APDA Midwest Chapter’s 24th Annual Optimism Walk "Back the Best Brains - Support Research to Cure PD" event is part of APDA’s national fundraising effort supporting its' dual mission to, Ease the Burden through its Information & Referral Center network and Find the Cure through its scientific research approved by the its' prestigious Scientific Advisory Board. It is a family day that will make a difference in the lives of those living with Parkinson’s disease. Everyone can join in the quest as participants, cheering sections, sponsors, contributors and volunteers. The walk path is mobility device friendly.

Riverwalk Grand Pavilion in Downtown Naperville

Saturday, September 6, 2014 (Rain or Shine)
Registration:  8:30 am
Walk Begins:  10:00 am 

 

Join in the fun by participating in our event and bring your family and friends. The more people – the more fun! Enjoy a 1.5 mile walk along the Du Page river; stroll past Centennial Park with inline skateboarding facility, Jaycee Playground which is ADA-accessible, past Centennial Beach, on to the Dandelion Fountain, through a covered bridge, past the Paddleboat Quarry, view the Millennium Carillon Bell Tower, all the while enjoying the natural beauty for which the Riverwalk is so famously known. 

Refreshments will be available, and there will be a raffle for some great items donated by local merchants and friends (you do not have to be present to win). Informative sponsor exhibits and representatives will be on hand to answer your questions. Representatives from the APDA Information and Referral Center and the Young Onset Group will be available to answer questions and provide PD information. 

Registration fee is $25 per person, and you will receive a t-shirt, while supplies last. You must be present on the day of the event to obtain a t-shirt. Your donation is tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law.

 

Event Schedule

8:30 am – 9:30 am Check-In and Registration 

  • Turn in completed pledge sheets in exact amount by check or cash. Enjoy a cup of coffee and snack as you visit with sponsors, APDA and PD representatives, purchase raffle tickets and find the raffle item you want to go home with!

9:15 am -10:00 am Welcome (NOTE: revised starting at 9:15 am and change in presentation topics.)

  • Maxine Dust, President of APDA Midwest Chapter - Opening Remarks and Introductions

  • Dr. Michael Rezak, MD, PhD, Director, Movement Disorder Program, Chief, Neuroscience Section - Central DuPage Hospital, and Medical Director for APDA-Midwest Chapter will present on "PD Pump andIimportance of Paying Attention to Non-Motor Symptoms.” 
  • Dr. Michael Mercury, PhD - Director of Neuropsychology, Cadence Health, Clinical Neuropsychologist will present “Understanding Depression and PD.”

10:00 am Walk Begins

  • Follow the signs through the Riverwalk path for 1.5 miles. If you are feeling ambitious, take the path a second time around!

Raffle Drawing After Walk

  • Tickets can be purchased from 8:30 am thru 11:00 am. Tickets are $1.00 for 1 ticket or $5.00 for 6 tickets.

Hot Dog Lunch

  • At 11:30 am, hot dogs lunches will be available for purchase, so you can picnic in the park with your family and friends afterwards.
